5 Reasons to Detox this Fall Chrissa Hardy

I’ve said it a million times before and I’ll say it again, fall is the best time of year. Eating a bowl of soup in the summer is borderline insane, but in the fall, it’s heaven. Also, I’m a blanket lover, so when the temperatures drop, I reach for my nearest blanket and get all wrapped up. Fall is warm, it’s cozy. And it’s a celebration of rich colors and food.

Fall is also a difficult time to maintain healthy habits. With all of the sweets, hearty meals, and food-centric gatherings, how are you supposed to count calories? Or even attempt to stay in the recommended daily caloric range?

So fall, particularly right now, before Halloween arrives, is an ideal time for a detox. Here are five reasons why.

    1. Because your summer was filled with hot dogs and lime flavored beer.

Do not regret your summer eating choices. You enjoyed them at the time, and you can’t worry about the past, so focus on making the right food choices going forward. Clean eating does wonders for your mind and body, so choosing a vegan cleanse with tons of fruits and veggies like Kaeng Raeng is the best thing you can do.

    2. Because the holidays are knocking on your door, and they’ve brought with them pounds of cinnamon and pumpkin flavored sweets.

You’re about to head into the most sugar-packed time of the year. It’s not going to be easy. It never is. All you can do is jump start your healthy eating habits by making the right choices now. Detox cleanses do exactly that. So set your self up for success and don’t beat yourself up if you have a piece of Grandma Tilly’s pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving. Just eat as healthy as you can up until then and it’ll balance itself out.

    3. Because with the early evening sunsets, you need an energy boost.

It’s darker in the mornings and earlier at night now, and it’s only going to get darker. The low light of winter can be a serious energy killer, and there’s nothing better for your energy than healthy food with minimal ingredients. Kaeng Raeng includes only real pronounceable ingredients, so you can get all the great benefits of a detox without depravation or interruption to your fabulous daily life. And each flavor comes with only the best for your body: 19g of protein, 11g of fiber, 2 billion live probiotic cultures, and daily vitamins. It’s all natural – no artificial anything, no laxatives, and no stimulants.

    4. Because here’s one you’ll actually enjoy!

Every Kaeng Raeng program comes with 3 crazy delicious flavors: ”joyful” strawberry, raspberry, pineapple; “daybreak” mango, peach, pineapple; and “into the blue” banana, blueberry. Just mix with water or blend into your favorite smoothie. The mixes are thick, so smoothies are really the best option here.

    5. No seriously, you won’t be miserable like with other detox cleanses.

Kaeng Raeng is customizable in 3-day or 6-day programs and 3 different levels: Beginner (for first time cleansers), Veteran (for experienced cleansers), and Master (you know who you are). And because they come with natural ingredients packed with protein and fiber, you won’t be so hungry you want to punch everyone around you. YAY. Happy holidays!

Win It! We’re giving away one 3-day Beginner program to a very lucky HelloGiggles reader. To enter, just leave a comment below with why YOU want to try a vegan cleanse. Can’t wait? 3. I just went through a pretty difficult break up, and I’m ready to get healthy and start feeling good about myself again. This cleanse seems like a great way to make that happen and see a positive change in my life!

    4. I would love to try a cleanse! I have never done one before. One of the main reasons is because they are generally expensive, and I am a broke college student living paycheck to paycheck. But the reason I would like to do a cleanse is because I just got asked to join a dance team and I’m really excited, but nervous that I won’t be able to keep up with the more experienced girls. I want to start getting in better shape and eating healthier, and a cleanse would be a great way to kick that off! I just finally quit smoking, and I need to get all the nasty toxins out of my body and start fresh:)

    5. I would love to try them!!

    6. I really want to try this cleanse because I love juicing but it’s takes up so much time and energy to do it yourself. It would be so nice to try a cleanse that takes all the work out of juicing so I can relax and enjoy the day! Plus I bet it’s yummy and I really want to taste it!

    7. I’ve always wanted to try a cleanse. I just moved to a new city and I found myself wandering to the pantry all too often simply because I have not met anyone yet an just recently found a job. I’m working on a fresh start, and I’d really love to feel better about myself too. Also, all of those flavors sound delicious and I’m usually wary of mixes because I’m already vegetarian and there can be some sneaky ingredients!

    8. There are multiple reasons why I would like to try this. The main reason that I have is because I currently struggle with anxiety. I have had reoccurring anxiety for the past three years and I have tried so many different things and nothing seems to be helping. I have recently been told that my diet might be the reason behind my anxiety issues and detoxing would be a great way to start to see if a diet change will help end all this mess. I am currently a graduate student and low on money so purchasing the detox myself right now is not a real option. That is why I need a detox!

    9. I am looking into trying a vegan lifestyle, and would really love to try a cleanse to get me jump-started!

    10. For some time now, I’ve been researching cleanses to detox my body because I just feel like I need to get rid of toxins inside that shouldn’t be there. I suffered from slews of upset stomachs, and now I’m eating healthy, but I still feel like I need that rejuvenating feeling that comes with a cleanse. However, I have been hesitant to buy or try other cleanses because they read too chemical, but trying this vegan natural cleanse seems like a much safer and healthier option!

    11. I’m already a vegan but I’m looking into doing more cleansing. I worked at an all organic juice bar over the summer but unfortunately, it closed after I moved away to college. :( I truly miss my coworkers, and working in such a healthy environment and having access to fresh juices and smoothies.

    12. I’d love to win this cleanse. I need something to help me get back on track after vacation and being ill. This makes it simpler, I won’t have to do the work of juicing myself.

    13. I would really love to win the Kaeng Raeng 3 day beginner program. I have recently been bought a blender for my birthday, and I am eager to put it to use. I even more recently decided to stop taking prescription medication for my anxiety and heal naturally. While on the medication I gained about 30 pounds! I want to clean out my system of any of the chemical or toxins left behind, and get back to the weight I feel comfortable with. I think this detox could really help my fatigue as well. This would be a great kick start for me. I’m a great candidate and I would let everyone know my experience with a fun and length review for Hello Giggles and Kaeng Raeng!

    14. I’m ready TO GET FIT! That starts with cleansing my body of all the toxins and free radicals that make you feel like crap and just lay around on the couch eating potato chips. Ready to start a healthy lifestyle with regular exercise and of course eating HEALTHY. This cleanse would be the perfect jump start to my new lifestyle! Sounds amazing! I hope to try it real soon! =)

    15. I’ve never done a cleanse before but have been looking into trying one. Been looking for one that is affordable and makes you feel great. I would love to win a free cleanse!

    16. I want to start a healthy lifestyle and what better way is there than to start with a Vegas cleanse!

    17. I want to start a healthy lifestyle and what better way is there than to start with a vegan cleanse!

    18. I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to try this vegan cleanse! I really believe that cleansing shows one’s strength and also their dedication to keeping our bodies happy and healthy! I will admit it’s very difficult to do this when I’m in college and all I want to do is eat pizza and all of the home cooked Mexican food my roommates and I make. I would really love to try this out before holidays come around so that I can encourage myself to do my best! Cheers and thanks HelloGiggles!

    19. I’ve always wanted to try a cleanse and just never could get the courage to spend $$ on it. This would be a great way to end the year clean!

    20. Recently I have been trying to be more mindful of what I’m eating and what ingredients are going into my body. I’ve also always wanted to try a juice cleanse but other ones I’ve looked into have seemed too daunting with food deprivation and more vegetables than fruit juices. I am dying to try Kaeng Raeng cleanse.! This cleanse seems a lot more realistic for a beginner like me. I hope I win the 3 day beginner cleanse; if not I guess I’ll have to save up for this.

    KAENG RAENG CLEANSE

    September 30th, 2013 by suadmin

cleanse-large-220x165Kaeng Raeng means, “Be Healthy, Be Strong”. It’s an incredibly easy-to-do cleanse, which I actually thoroughly enjoyed (which can’t be said for most cleanses.). Juice cleanses have been so ubiquitous now that you’re almost the odd-one-out if you haven’t done one. I’m not personally a fan of a juice-only cleanse. It doesn’t do it for me- the thought of just drinking and not chewing for 1 day, let alone 3, fills me with horror. I have teeth and I like to use them! I’ve also done some other very complicated cleanses, which do include food, but that also include a lot of commitment to eating specific foods, and downing all kinds of herbs etc. Suffice to say that the mere thought of a cleanse isn’t that attractive to me. However, I do think that some kind of a digestive cleanse is a good thing. To clear out your digestive system, and put in some mega-nutrients and pro-biotics can’t do any harm, right?

When Kaeng Raeng appeared on my doorstep, I thought that it was perhaps just another smoothie meal-replacement kind of deal, but it isn’t. It’s a vegan gluten-free cleanse/meal replacement system, whereby you can use the smoothies to replace all, some or none of your meals. They recommend that you do 3 smoothies per day and supplement with raw fruits and veggies. Let me tell you – this is really DOABLE! First off, the smoothies themselves are made from you are getting 8-0unces of fresh fruit, 19 grams of non-GMO soy protein, and 2 billion CFU’s of vegan probiotics, plus a full serving of veggie fiber. Each smoothie contains less than 240 calories.

I don’t wish to lose weight, so I drank my smoothies and just ate my regular healthy diet (a bit less than I normally do,) but if you want to shed a few pounds, stick to their guidelines and you will.

The cool thing about the smoothies is that all you need do is add water and/or a little apple juice. The taste is perfect for me – not too sweet (I detest smoothie mixes that add a ton of sweetener like Stevia). You don’t even need a blender – you can just vigorously shake it up in a reusable water bottle, or smoothie-shaker mug. You will feel full after one serving, and probably won’t want to eat, which is a good thing if you want to shed a few pounds. You can also grab a sample packet for 7 bucks to see if you like it, before fully committing.

    Kaeng Raeng: all natural detox

    HELLO & HAPPY THURSDAY!!

I recently had the pleasure of sampling the 3 day Kaeng Raeng cleanse and had a wonderful experience and thought I would share! Until the other week I had never personally heard of the Kaeng Raeng cleanse before and can be quite skeptic when it comes to cleanses that are not just the simple, standard, and straightforward..

    “consume raw fruits and vegetables”

The idea of embracing a cleanse that specifically involves adhering to drinking only 3 different flavored smoothies a day seems like an obstacle.. even for me!! I tend to prefer my standard organic green juice and feel confident that it’s best way to obtain optimal nutrients. As a consumer and future Registered Dietitian though I find it’s important to be open minded with new products, especially when they are as such high quality products like the Kaeng Raeng Cleanse!

    white.jpg

    NO FILLERS

    No caffeine

powders are made from freeze dried local fruits

    No added sugar

Non GMO soy protein is used

    Can drink in any order

    Shelf life for 3 years

product contains a lot of fiber, leaving you feeling full!!

Kaeng Raeng is a nutritional meal replacement detox program that delivers you results without sacrificing taste, convenience, quality, or your sanity.

    Kaeng Raeng cleanse

    comes with three options:

The Beginner (for first time users – our most gentle formula), <– I chose

The Veteran (for those having done at least one detox – our medium level intensity),

The Master (for regular detoxers – you know who you are).

    The Program

The program is simple and straight forward: just drink one pouch per meal time (3 times per day) in addition to raw fruits and vegetables. Simply add one pouch to 24-32oz of liquid. You can use water, juice, or non-dairy milk. For best results, just add water. You can also blend it with liquid, frozen fruit, or ice for a thicker sweeter smoothie.

    krboxlindz

    How does it work?

Kaeng Raeng was created by a Standford University alumna Lindsay Reinsmith pictured above. Lindsay says your body can consume all natural ingredients easily, healthfully separating fiber and nutrients, and passing waste through your colon cleanly. When you consume additives, chemicals, toxins, and other processed foods, your digestive system cannot properly separate the healthy from the non healthy components of the food. Many times, these toxins will not pass through your colon properly, sometimes building up over days, weeks, months, or years. Kaeng Raeng works to “flush” all of those toxins by using all natural fibers and water to help eliminate that colon build up.

Further, Kaeng Raeng is a restricted diet whereby you are abstaining from cooked, processed, heavily sugary or salted foods. By removing these foods from your diet, even for a short period of time, your body will naturally release toxic build up through the digestive system and skin. While challenging at first, your body will adapt to the raw vegan diet.

    box03

    Kaeng Raeng’s program helps to:

Remove toxins and chemicals from the body

    Jumpstart weight loss

    Improve overall digestive health

    Improve clarity of mind

    Improve mood and decrease irritability

    Clear skin

    Repair damaged hair

Decrease flatulence, constipation, bloating, or excess water weight

Decrease cravings for salty and sugary foods

    Make you feel better!

    THE FLAVORS:

    WHO SHOULD CLEANSE?!

Removing toxins from the body can have many positive side effects including weight loss, reduction in bloating, increased immune system, improved skin and hair, reduced cravings and overeating, and better clarity of mind. If properly conducted, a detox can rapidly help you jumpstart a weight loss plan, or make you feel fresh after days, weeks, months, or years of binging or not taking care of your body.

    WHO SHOULDN’T CLEANSE?!

If you want to do the full 3-day or 6-day detox program, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, any individual with a history of eating disorders, or any child under the age of 15 should NOT use Kaeng Raeng. Pregnant or nursing moms should not use Kaeng Raeng because of the low caloric intake recommended as part of the program. As always, please consult a physician if you have any medical concerns.

    Cleanse Day 1:

For my smoothie I decided to start with the “Strawberry, raspberry, Pineapple” blend!! My initial plan was to try the smoothie just plain jane style with some almond milk just so I could get the full effect & flavor of this shake blend. I of course tried it by itself and it tasted like a fresh fruit smoothie!!, but I had to get all fancy and add frozen bananas, raspberries, Stevia, and some Amazing Grass Wheat Grass Powder for a little boost!!

    IMG_1822

I really loved this classic blend as it was fruity, flavorful, and QUITE FILLING!!

(no really, I’ve never experienced a more filling smoothie in my life!)

This detox is so filling because it contains 13g of fiber per serving, or 39g per day, most of which comes from the fruit and psyllium. I typically eat a lot of fruits and veggies throughout the week and that’s where I get my fiber, but I was not use to this much fiber.. 2 shakes had me full almost the ENTIRE DAY.

I couldn’t even drink 3 shakes per day!

    Why so much fiber?!

Studies show that a high-fiber diet keeps blood sugar levels balanced, resulting in less hunger and more weight loss. Fiber has also been shown to reduce your risk of heart disease and certain types of cancer. The daily recommended value for fiber is 35g/day, although most Americans only get between 10-15g of fiber due to a focus on fats and carbohydrates and less on fresh fruits and vegetables.

    PicMonkey Collage

For my second smoothie of the day I opted for the Blueberry, Blackberry, and Banana blend and it was quite tasty!! I of course had the idea of making a fancy version by adding raspberries, bananas, almond milk, and a few drops of liquid stevia and it came out perfect!! I would say that I found this flavor to be my personal favorite!!

The cleanse recommends that you eat only raw uncooked foods so I decided to find a happy medium by making some steamed portobello mushroom caps!! I heated them for less than 3 minutes with balsamic vinegar and topped with fresh garlic, rosemary, and sea salt!! (was surprisingly quite good sans the olive oil)

    Unknown

    TUMERICELIXIROFLIFE.COM

I ALSO DRANK LOTS OF TUMERIC JUICE!!

    PicMonkey Collage

On day two I had to stop by YogaWorks to meet with the teachers for the yoga training, which is starting in the next two weeks!! Since I didn’t have time to make a smoothie when I got up I grabbed a green juice from Juice Generation Soho!! I got my FAVORITE –> Hail to Kale juice (around 12:30) which has, apple, kale, watermelon, and lemon!! Was yummies!!

    (highly recommend it)

Since training starts soon I decided to take a pilates class for a little over an hour. I was of course nervous about getting exercise in while cleansing for many reasons lol (explanation not needed), but everything went great! I felt full from the morning green juice, not bloated full, but satiated, energize, and ready to go full!! Once I got home (around 3:00) I made the Kaeng Raeng “Mango Peach Pineapple” blend. This blend was really flavorful and I added frozen raspberries and bananas, almond milk, and fresh mango!!

    The result was wonderful!!

    PicMonkey Collage

For my second smoothie of the day I chose the “Blueberry, Blackberry, & Banana”. I added rice milk, frozen bluberries, blackberries, half a banana, chia seeds, and since I was more on the active side by taking a pilates class I chose to add some 22 Days Nutrition Plant Protein powder into the mix!!

    This turned out amazing!!

(I think this was my number 1 Fave blend!)

    PicMonkey Collage

Day 3 I felt great and inside and out and opted for a the “Strawberry, Raspberry, Pineapple” blend!! I added a little bit fresh mango with the skin, frozen blackberries and banana, and some vanilla PLant Fusion Protein Powder into the mix along with Amazing Grass Wheat Grass Powder

This mix was magical just like the others!

    PicMonkey Collage

For my my last shake I chose the “Strawberry, Raspberry, Pineapple” blend and added, soy milk, frozen raspeberries, banana, vanilla extract, and Manitoba Hemp Seeds for an extra added boost!!

    M

Since I wanted to stick to the raw foods while doing the cleanse I picked up some fresh raw/organic/vegan eats from Magic Mix Juicery

    What’s in it?!

    IRON MAN SALAD$11.95
Organic marinated kale mixed with spinach, avocado, purple cabbage, shiitake bacon, carrots, hemp seeds, Brazil nut parm and house made spirulina dressing

    Raw Coconut Cream Pie $12.00
Flaxseed and shredded coconut crust with irish moss, coconut butter, coconut meat, coconut oil, coconut sugar, lucuma filling

CURIOUS ABOUT MY FINAL THOUGHTS ON THE KAENG RAENG CLEANSE?!

I never do a cleanse for more than two days at a time, but after the first day I felt like I was into the swing of things and the waves of foods cravings became less and less and finally vanished!! I assumed after the first day that I would be craving, dreaming, drooling, about the next time I would eat “Food Food”, but the truth is..

    I WASN’T..

THE LAST DAY OF THIS CLEANSE I REALLY FELT ENERGIZED, VIBRANT, AND AS THOUGH I COULD HAVE STUCK TO THE SYSTEM FOR EVEN A FEW MORE DAYS!!

(and I never cleanse like this)

    My Juice Detox Cleanse Experience

Posted by Kirbie / 4 comments » / Product Reviews

It seems everyone I know has done a juice cleanse of some sort. For the longest time, I had no interest in trying one, especially because I couldn’t imagine days of only drinking juice and not eating anything solid.

But after hearing positive experiences from several friends, I was curious. And after being sick nearly a month from what started out as a small cold, I thought it was time for a detox.

So when I was approached with an offer to try the Kaeng Raeng detox cleanse, I decided to give it a shot. What immediately appealed to me was that you are allowed to eat during the cleanse, it just has to be raw foods.

I was sent the beginnger’s 3 day detox plan. Freeze dried fruit smoothie pouches were delivered to me. To make the smoothie, you simply add water to it and blend it into a smoothie. You can add ice if you want it extra thick.

It comes in three different flavor packs: juu juu (blueberry blackberry banana), reunn (strawberry raspberry pineapple) and glai roong (mango peach pineapple).

Each pack is supposed to be consumed with at least 24 oz – 32 oz of water (3 to 4 cups). And one pack equals one meal supplement. The first thing that I noticed was that even though this is a fruit smoothie, each serving had a very low amount of sugar, which had been a big concern of mine. You can view the nutrition facts here.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that these smoothies did keep me full. I won’t lie. I didn’t completely stay on the cleanse. It wasn’t that it left me hungry. I just had too many food temptations lying around that I couldn’t completely forgo for three days.

But they did leave me full. On Day 1, I got through almost the entire day feeling full and satisfied from the juices. At midnight I caved and ate some Doritos because I missed my nightly snacking routine. Mr. K saw the crumbs on my mouth and commented “I thought you were on a cleanse. Fail” Then he shook his head at me and made me feel so guilty.

On Day 2, I decided that rather than try to do the cleanse completely, I would let myself eat some foods, but keep it super healthy (i.e. salads, grilled fish and egg whites) and use the juices to keep me full and squelch hunger pains. That worked out much better and I prolonged the juice program from 3 to 6 days since I wasn’t drinking as many a day.

In the morning, I’d drink a pouch. Lunch would be something really healthy. In the afternoon, when I started to get hungry again, I would take out another jar of juice and take a few sips and feel much better. After dinner, I would drink more, which stopped me feeling the need for desserts and tons of snacks after dinner.

So I didn’t follow the cleanse exactly, but I still felt like it helped. I ate much cleaner and healthier for a week thanks to the Kaeng Raeng smoothies.

One thing about the smoothies is that after they are blended, if they sit around, the fruit particles and water will separate so you do have to shake it again before drinking. I found it was best to carry mine in mason jars. Not only were they easy to bring to work without worrying about leaking, but it also allowed me to easily shake the smoothie before drinking. And I was able to divide them out: 2 jars of juu juu for breakfast, glai roong for afternoon, etc.

Flavorwise, I enjoyed the taste of all the smoothies. I felt like the juu juu was more filling, likely from the banana. The glai roong was the sweetest.

Having never done any other juice or detox cleanses, I don’t have much of a comparison point, but I liked my experience with Kaeng Raeng. You can read more about Kaeng Raeng here.

Please note: I was sent a complimentary 3 day beginner pack for review purposes. I was not compensated for the review and my opinions are my own.

I hope everyone has a great rest of the weekend and Happy Father’s Day!

Drink Your Food! Kaeng Raeng Dehydrated Fruit Detox Powders

Despite what a lot of people think, being vegan doesn’t mean you’re healthy—it’s very easy to be a vegan junk food junkie. So every once in a while, after doing some fairly consistent damage, I go on a cleanse. Recently I tried Kaeng Raeng, detox drinks in powder form that first saw the light of day in founder and CEO Lindsay Reinsmith’s kitchen, when she was trying to lose weight. I caught up with Reinsmith and asked her to give me the skinny on her stuff.

Your site says Kaeng Raeng is “committed to veganism,” and a portion of your sales benefit The Humane Society of the United States. How important is veganism to your company?

As an animal rights activist and a vegan, it’s important for me to have a product and a company that match my personal interests and to support these organizations. But it’s also important to put a face and a person behind Kaeng Raeng; it’s not made in China by a giant corporation with offshore customer service. We’re a small business in Northern California, and we care greatly about the quality of our product and about helping people see the health and beauty that come from a plant-based diet.

Where does the name come from?

Kaeng Raeng means “be healthy, be strong” in the Thai language. I’m fascinated with Thai culture and cuisine and its focus on animal-free living, and I was inspired by the Phuket Vegetarian Festival, the largest in the world. So Kaeng Raeng celebrates vegan eating and sustainable, animal-free living. And although we have a Thai name, Kaeng Raeng is 100% made in the USA with only local ingredients.

Each packet contains less than 230 calories, from an ounce of freeze-dried fruit, plus non-GMO soybeans, psyllium for fiber and L. Acidophilus for digestion and immunity. Why soy as opposed to hemp or pea protein?

When we were finishing the formula, we conducted focus groups all over the country and tested soy, brown rice, hemp and pea proteins. Getting a full serving of protein per day (45 grams) would require a significant amount of those proteins, giving the product an overwhelmingly poor taste and increasing the cost by nearly 100%. We respect that customers want a high-quality product without having to pay a fortune, so we use non-GMO soy grown in California. There’s a lot of conflicting information about soy, so we encourage people to do their own research. On a side note, we also found that mainstream consumers are confused about hemp, often equating it with marijuana.

Many cleanses recommend omitting or minimizing fruit because of the sugar content. Why is fruit the main componenet of Kaeng Raeng, and how do you prevent that sugar spike?

Kaeng Raeng follows the principles of a raw diet, centered on raw fruits and vegetables. KR is also more carbohydrate-driven than other plant-based diets that are focused on nuts and oils; this is for calorie restriction and energy during the short-term raw diet. The shakes are made primarily with fruit for taste. But while Kaeng Raeng contains fructose, it also contains a significant amount of fiber (13 grams per pouch), which regulates blood sugar levels.

You suggest detoxing with three powders a day for three or six days. Who benefits from what length of time, and are there any other differences?

We have customers of all different backgrounds, ages and body types. While we find that most people get the best results from our six-day program, many begin to feel better and get the jumpstart they need after only three days on a plant-based diet. We have three levels, which vary in cleansing power: Beginner, Veteran and Master. The Veteran and Master levels have significantly more fiber and are really designed for people who’ve done cleanses before or who already incorporate high-fiber foods into their diet.

Can the drinks be used as a meal replacement, too, or only as detox aids?

Kaeng Raeng is great as a meal replacement; that’s often how I drink it. It’s incredibly filling and is packed with so many things most of us don’t get in our daily breakfast or lunch, including a full serving of fruit, fiber, 15 grams of protein, two billion live cultures, and daily vitamins, including 100% of the required vitamin C and B12.

You suggest supplementing with raw fruits and vegetables, but the longer I let my drinks sit, the thicker they got; I was barely finished with one when it was time for the next! Is adding raw food a necessary part of the Kaeng Raeng cleansing process?

Adding raw food is not necessary. But we find that most people who are trying a plant-based diet for the first time have difficulty with a liquid-only diet, so we encourage snacking on raw food to make the process easier; it can also make the shakes sweeter or more flavorful. Remember, a lot of people eat an extraordinary amount of processed sugar every day, so easing them into the cleanse by allowing raw fruits and vegetables is a great way to help them keep from cheating or giving up.

Kaeng Raeng has been endorsed by Dr. Melina Jampolis, CNN Health’s diet and fitness expert, and Kim Barnouin of Skinny Bitch. Was it important to have a nonvegan health expert give you the thumbs-up?

We’re so happy to have the support of Dr. Jampolis, who’s not vegan but who definitely promotes a healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables. We’re a vegan company, started by a vegan, with a vegan product and supporting vegan organizations. That’s a lot of vegan! But not everyone cares about those things; they simply want something that’s good for them and, more importantly, that works. With so many competing products out there, some safe and some not, it’s great to have support from the medical community. It helps the general public decide what they want to spend their money on.

The fruit in your powders comes from local farmers in Northern California who grow organically, and you use recycled boxes for packaging and encourage your customers to reuse bottles. Why is sustainability important to you?

For a few reasons. First, there’s no better way to reduce your carbon footprint than to support a plant-based diet; the meat and dairy industries wreak havoc on the planet, contributing greatly to climate change. So having a vegan product was a no-brainer. Second, we support local farms and local suppliers. Sure, our product would be a lot cheaper if it was made overseas with the cheapest possible ingredients, and there are plenty of supplement companies that do that. But because we buy local, we know we’re protecting our customers’ health and lowering our own footprint. Third, small businesses create a lot of waste, so it’s easy to become part of the problem instead of part of the solution. We not only use local ingredients and recycled packaging, but our entire office structure is based around low waste. For example, we don’t produce paper brochures or materials.

The link between veganism and environmentalism is hugely important—I love when vegan companies incorporate eco-friendly practices!

Meanwhile, let’s talk taste and texture: When you add liquid to Kaeng Raeng, pieces of fruit rehydrate, so there’s actually something to chew as well as drink. And the flavors are great—fruity but not too sweet. My favorite was the Strawberry Raspberry Pineapple, followed by the Blueberry Blackberry Banana and the Mango Peach Pineapple. Any new flavors on the horizon?

Not at this time. But we’ve had a lot of interest in a “green” flavor that would be vegetable-based, so we’re trying to find the best way to produce that cost-effectively. And we hope to come out with a protein-free version next year, so people can add whatever type of protein powder they want.

Kaeng Raeng is available online in three- and six-day supplies of three packets per day. Choose from Beginner (gentle), Veteran (medium intensity) and Master (the highest concentration of fiber), ranging in price from $64.99 to $149.99.

I’ve always been a bit wary of cleanses. I do like the idea of being really thoughtful about what’s going in your body and kind of cleansing your system, however I’ve heard stories of just straight misery on cleanses and I felt like I don’t have the time to be miserable!

But then along came an email from the people at Kaeng Raeng. A few things appealed to me about this cleanse.

    1. Kaeng Raeng is vegan, all natural, made in California with ingredients sourced from California.
    2. There are different levels to suit your needs: beginner, veteran and master.
    3. There are varying days 3-6 days, they suggest 3 days for beginners aka ME.
    4. YOU CAN EAT! You drink the Kaeng Raeng drinks 3 times a day for meal replacements but you can ALSO have raw fruit and vegetables throughout your day.
    5. IT’S AFFORDABLE! My cleanse would only cost $69.

So in the spirit of Fall Into Good Habits and after reading all these things I decided to try the beginner 3 day cleanse by Kaeng Raeng.

When I first received the Kaeng Raeng cleanse I was a little perplexed because it was a powder! I thought how could it be all natural and a powder!? Well the reason why this cleanse is a powder is because most of the ingredients are freeze dried fruits including: frozen dried mangoes, peaches, pineapple, blueberries, blackberries, banana, strawberries, raspberries.

The Kaeng Reang beginner 3-day cleanse has 3 flavors of drinks: Juu Juu “into the blue”-blueberry, blackberry, banana; Glai Roong “daybreak”-mango, peach, pineapple; Reunn “joyful” strawberry, raspberry, pineapple.

Day 1 was rough for me. I went for a run then I made the Juu Juu drink in the morning taking one of the recipes recommended for beginners from the Kaeng Raeng site. So my drink was the Juu Juu powder plus some fresh blueberries, a banana and some ice cubes thrown into the blender. I drank a bit at home and put the rest in my Kaeng Raeng thermos and ran off to work. I am a coffee in the morning kinda’ girl and not having the stimulant I usually do really effected me a couple of hours into work, I did feel suuuuper tired-but I did not give in!

I kept my Kaeng Raeng thermos in the fridge kind of nursing my Juu Juu drink I had made that morning. I brought a Kaeng Raeng drink pack to work for lunch, but I actually didn’t use it. I still had half my Juu Juu drink from the morning at lunch time so I drank that and and nibbled on some fruits. I drank the Glai Roong drink pack in the evening adding a few slices of fresh mango and strawberries and ice, along with eating some fresh fruits and veggies at home. SLEPT LIKE A BABY. BEST SLEEP EVER.

Day 2 I woke up feeling loads better and more alert. Pretty much the same process as day 1 except I started with Reunn drink adding strawberries, blueberries and ice. This was not a recipe from the Kaeng Raeng site, I just took the liberty of adding things I thought would go well with the flavors in the drink pack. I did get a little tired by midday but, not nearly as the ton of bricks feeling I had on day 1. Again, I brought another pack to work and again I didn’t use it. Drank the Glai Roong drink pack for dinner and went to bed. SLEPT LIKE A BABY. BEST SLEEP EVER.

Day 3 arrived and I couldn’t really believe I was already done! It felt like I had just gotten started! Of course if you had asked me on day 1, I would not have told you that but by day 3, I was in the groove and feeling great. SLEPT LIKE A BABY. BEST SLEEP EVER.

How did I feel after? I have to say, I felt like a million bucks!!!

    • I had a lots of energy.
    • My skin looked amazing, I kind of marveled at it.
    • I never got better rest. I’m notorious for having trouble sleeping, I sleep suuuuper late pretty much every night but on Kaeng Raeng, I would hit the pillow and fall straight to sleep. And the quality of sleep felt so much better too!
    • MY FAVORITE after effect from Kaeng Raeng is I craaaave vegetation. I’m typically a craving carbs person, but hand on heart after the cleanse all I wanted to do was eat vegetables and fruit.

Would I do the Kaeng Raeng Cleanse again, absolutely! While tough on the first day, it felt very worth it and at the end of day 3 it felt like it was no trouble at all. Here are some tips if you’re going to take on the Kaeng Raeng Cleanse.

    • Mix with a blender! Because the powder is made of fruit it’s pretty dense and a spoon did not do the trick for me to dissolve into the liquid.
    • Add some ice and fruits into the Kaeng Raeng drinks. The drinks themselves are not bad tasting to me, but they are difficult to drink without some help because of the granular powder formula. Adding fruit and ice goes along way here with giving the drinks better texture and flavor.
    • If you’re a coffee drinker, have some water with lemon in the morning to start the day and then grab some oranges! I know from running that oranges do great with energizing you when you get into a lull, and they really helped me during the moments on the cleanse when I needed a little wake me up!

You can buy the Kaeng Raeng Cleanse at Whole Foods and on the Kaeng Raeng site HERE. Also all Kaeng Raeng Cleanse levels and durations are available at OpenSky right now!

So friends, have you ever thought of doing a cleanse? I think if you’re a beginner cleanser like me, Kaeng Raeng is a great start. It really did help me fall into the good habit of eating more veggies and I hope that’s something that stays with me…till my next cleanse!

Tell me if I’m alone in this: My decidedly-not-vegan-but-very-supportive family members ofttimes refer to me as if I am the epitome of health since I’m vegan and I’m a half-marathon runner. Of course, that’s all well and good if it inspires them to make more animal-friendly eating decisions. However, the lovely sprouting “V” stamped on the packaged foods that I eat doesn’t ensure that I’m not taking in ingredients that my body couldn’t necessarily do without. I also like wine. Like, really like wine.

That’s why I jumped at the opportunity to try Kaeng Raeng, a nutritional detox program that works without “sacrificing taste, convenience, quality, or your sanity.” Guys, you can eat while on this cleanse. This is no “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels” (thanks for that, Kate Moss) program. The detox gurus over at Kaeng Raeng suggest that you supplement the smoothie program with raw foods. No, they don’t just suggest itthey say that you’ll get the most benefit from the program if you drink the smoothies, drink water, and eat raw foods all at the same time.

This could be yours for free! Not feeling so lucky? You can still get it for 20% off.
    Image: meredithleighwrites via Flickr

Basically, what I’m telling you is that you can feel like a vegan superhuman without having to avoid your kitchen for three days (or six days, depending on your timeline preference). Thank you, Kaeng Raeng, thank you.

    Great Vegan Cleanse

I discovered Kaeng Raeng on twitter from Kim Barnouin author of one of my favorite books, "Skinny Bitch". I immediately looked up KR (Kaeng Raeng) and found the website very interesting. What I liked about KR was that I would be able to eat all the raw vegetables and fruits that I wanted while on the cleanse. KR website said that it taste like a Jamba Juice so I had a idea that this product would taste good. I ordered it that day and received it within a week! Fast shipping.
Along with the KR Veteran kit, I also ordered the reuseable bottle. Its a great size bottle not only to use for your KR juice but to use for a water bottle when you head to the gym. The only problem about the bottle that I didn't like was its hard to drink out of without it almost spilling all out. Drinking out of it while driving wouldn't be the best idea. I used my long reusable straw that came with my Starbucks reuseable cup that I purchased from Starbucks awhile ago. A easy open sip lid like on those thermal coffee mugs would be a good idea for the bottle. The powder packets are so nice and convenient. All individually packed by each serving amount.
    Day 1

KR contains alot of liquid as they stated in their website and as I experienced myself when I made my first smoothie. I made it with 32oz of liquid. First packet I tried was the Juu Juu "Into the blue". It smells really good, the smell of it reminded me of banana baby food. I had the Reunn "Joyful" later during the day and as I opened the packet I could smell each fruit that was in it. With the Reunn, i added only 24oz of liquid and enjoyed it much better. They taste GREAT! If i could compare the taste of them to a product, I would relate the taste to those "Naked or Odwalla" juice drinks. During the day I drank water with chia seeds.

    9am
KR JuuJuu mixed in a blender w/ 24oz water, 8oz. Organic Lemonade, 1/2c. of strawberries and 1 cup of ice.
    Banana
    2pm
    Apple
    4pm
    1 small avocado
    1 cup of sprouts
    1 Roma tomato
    2 button mushrooms
    6pm
KR Reunn mixed w/ 12oz. water and 12oz. Organic Lemonade poured over ice
    10pm
    2 Apple Bananas
    Day 2
I woke up a little hungry (like I usually do). I had veggies before I made my KR juice. Forgot to bring my KR juice so I ended up just have a small serving of veggies.
    9am
    3/4 of a small avocado
    1 cup of sprouts
    1 button mushroom
    1 Roma tomato
    12pm
KR Glai Roong mixed w/ 12oz. water and 12oz. Organic Lemonade poured over ice.
    4pm
1/4 of a small avocado ( my leftovers from this morning)
    1/2 cup of sprouts
    1 button mushrooms
    1/2 cup of grapes
    10pm
    3/4 small avocado
    1/2 cup of sprouts
    1 button mushroom
    1/2 cup of cucumber slices
    KR JuuJuu (half a serving)
    Day 3
My last day of the cleanse. I feel good and the only craving that I really have are for udon noodles for some odd reason. I really enjoyed my KR Glai Roong today because I added more Organic Lemonade then water. Yummy! I have tried the KR juice with just water and I don't like it as much.
    9am
KR JuuJuu mixed w/ 12oz. water and 12oz. Organic Lemonade poured over ice
    10am
    2 Mangos
    2pm

KR Glai Roong mixed w/ 5oz. water and 19oz. Organic Lemonade, poured over ice.

    5pm
2 handfulls of spinach with 2 slices of red bell pepper and 2 slices of tomatos.
    1 cup of grapes

    10pm
    Banana

    Day 4

I completed the 3 day cleanse!!! This morning I went to the store and thought I would be wanting to eat a pizza and french fries which are my favorite but that wasn't the case. I headed straight towards the produce and grabbed mangos, avocados, squash, and cabbage. Kaeng Raeng really did help with reducing my cravings for "bad" food choices and I wanted to eat whole foods as if I was still on the cleanse. KR is also a great way to jump start a weight loss plan as they said online. Today I ate steamed cabbage and squash with hoisin sauce in the day time and I had avocado and cabbage later in the day. Overall I am very satisfied with Kaeng Raeng and will do the cleanse again. Their website is also very informative.

    Kaeng Raeng Detox

Last month, the folks at Kaeng Raeng emailed me to ask if I'd like to sample their all-natural, vegan detox program. Typically, I jump at the chance to review vegan products that may come my way, but Kaeng Raeng scared me. The 3-day beginner program requires you to drink three fruit smoothies a day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Judging by my past fails at juice cleanses, I assumed I'd starve to death on Kaeng Raeng.

So I emailed the nice lady back and expressed my concerns. Never fear, she assured me. You can eat all the raw veggies and fruits you want on the Kaeng Raeng cleanse, and the smoothies are very filling. Okay, I'll bite. Or, well, sip through a straw.

My detox box arrived about two weeks ago:

Inside were nine smoothie powder packets, three of each flavor —Daybreak (Glai Roong), Joyful (Reunn), and Into the Blue (Juu Juu). My instructions were to drink one smoothie for each meal, plus I could have all the raw veggies and fruit snacks I wanted. I would also work in some fresh pressed juices as snacks just for fun.

I finally had time to try the program this week, and like with all detoxes, I started off with a bang. I always get super-excited before a detox begins. On Monday morning, I whipped up the Daybreak Smoothie (mango, peach, pineapple) with a cup of almond-coconut milk, a cup of water, frozen mango chunks, and a frozen banana:

The taste was light and creamy, almost like a mango-flavored creamsicle. There's a slight gritty texture as it goes down the throat, but I find that to be common with many protein powder-based smoothies. Each smoothie powder is made with freeze-dried fruit, non-gmo soy, psyllium husk, probiotics, and vitamins. They have a whopping 15 grams of protein each!

As for my concerns about starving to death, well, seems I had nothing to worry about. These smoothies are so filling! So much so that I wasn't really hungry when I had a morning snack of carrots and bell peppers. But I ate it anyway because I missed chewing.

Lunch was the Joyful Smoothie (strawberry, raspberry, and pineapple) blended with coconut-almond milk, water, and frozen strawberries:

Tasty. I liked this one better than the morning smoothie. It had a tangy, powerful strawberry flavor.

This made me so full that I felt like I'd eaten a big ole veggie burger and fries. I was full for hours and hours.

But I was finally hungry again for this dinnertime Into the Blue Smoothie (blueberry and banana) blended with my homemade blueberry kombucha, frozen bananas, and frozen blueberries:

This was my favorite flavor of all! Blueberries and bananas just belong together.

And so went Tuesday and Wednesday as well. I had the same exact smoothies for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for three days (more on that in a few).

Although the smoothies would have probably been sufficient since they were so filling, I like to eat. And I really missed the act of chewing, so snacks were mandatory for me to feel happy even if I didn't need them to feel physically satisfied.

Over the three days, I had Baby Carrots and Mini Sweet Peppers:

And Celery and Mashed Avocado and Cherry Tomatoes:

But mid-way through Monday, I started to get bored with raw veggies. And fruit was out of the question since I was drinking fruit for all three meals. So I hit up Balewa's Vegan Gourmet, the raw cafe by my house, for his Spicy Kale Chips. These really hit the spot! I was missing greens!

I also picked up a few of Balewa's sprout salads to snack on for all three days. I ate the Hot Chick Salad on Tuesday (sprouted chickpeas, beet powder, walnuts, and some other mystery ingredients that taste delicious):

And today, I had some of Balewa's amazing Phyre Salad (sprouts — maybe mung beans? — with spirulina, cherry tomatoes, olive oil, and I detect a hint of nutritional yeast, but I could be wrong):

By Wednesday night, I was simply dying for some cooked food. But I decided to stay strong and push through the finish line. I had this Romaine Wrap with Raw Aged Cashew Gruyere (leftover from when I made Miyoko's recipe last week) as a nighttime snack:

So what did I think of the cleanse? Here are my pros and cons:

    Pros:
    * Smoothies are tasty, and they help me get my fruit servings, which I've never been good at.
    * I feel light and airy after the 3 days!
    * Totally TMI, but my colon is cleaned out. Like, there is NOTHING in there.
    * I never felt hungry or weak during the detox, as I typically do with juice cleanses. Smoothies were very filling.
    * Although my Kaeng Raeng program was offered for free, it's fairly inexpensive for a packaged cleanse program. It's $69.99 for the 3-day beginner program. Many fresh juice cleanses cost anywhere from $150 to $300 for a 3-day program.

    Cons:
    * After day one, I wanted more variety. I would have preferred nine different flavors instead of three of each flavor. Kaeng Raeng only makes these three flavors, but they should make more. I got bored very quickly.
    * I also got very sick of fruit. I'm a savory person, so I prefer the taste of veggies over fruit. I got tired of all my meals being sweet. Thankfully, the snacks between smoothies helped balance things out.

If you're friends with me on Facebook, I should probably apologize for my whining about being sick of fruit smoothies over the past few days. Don't blame Kaeng Raeng. It's a great detox program, and let's face it: No detox is all fun and games. If detoxes were supposed to be fun, we'd be detoxing with beer and French fries.

Ah damn, beer and French fries would be so good right now! But alas, I have a few hours left before I can have cooked junk food. Don't worry. I'm not going to go all retox crazy tomorrow, but I do have a few hearty, hot meals planned. And I'm certain an Abita Spring Pale Ale will be in my cards.
